If a drive is failing, stop using it

Clicking, freezing, or files that won't open are signs a drive is struggling. Every time it runs, there's a chance of losing more. Switch it off and get in touch.

What I can recover from

Failing hard drives

Drives that freeze, slow to a crawl or keep disconnecting but can still be read. I copy what I can to a healthy drive first, then work from the copy.

Deleted files

Files deleted by mistake, or a drive that was formatted.

Computers that won't start

Getting your files off a laptop or PC that no longer boots.

Memory cards and USB sticks

Photos and files deleted by mistake from SD cards, memory cards and USB sticks.

What it costs

Most recoveries are labour only, at £80 per hour. Badly damaged drives are quoted separately, and I'll tell you the likely outcome before doing more.

Questions

Can you guarantee I'll get my files back?

No one honestly can. I'll tell you what the chances look like before doing any more work.

What if the drive is clicking or physically damaged?

A drive that clicks, grinds or isn't detected at all needs a specialist clean-room lab, which I don't do. Switch it off and I'll point you to the right place.

Can you recover a corrupted memory card?

I can recover deleted files from cards and sticks, but not ones that are corrupted or physically damaged. Phones and tablets I don't work on.

How do I stop this happening again?

Once your files are back, I can set up a simple backup so you've always got a second copy.
